Notes
Over the years, increased automation of the engineering systems allowed the original crew number of 130 to be cut to 118 and then 102, with some newer ships having so many automated systems that they are crewed by only 40 officers and enlisted personnel. Conditions for the crew are quite poor by the standards of the Steamrunner or Akira classes; crew quarters average 30 square meters and there are no holodecks. In addition, there are no personal replicator stations in crew quarters—instead three mess areas are provided with replicator systems for the whole crew. Thus, the actual number of crew and actual weight of the ship varies depending on which production series it was manufactured in, with only the first two runs of ten carrying a crew of more than 50.

Also of note is the forward-facing
shuttle bay, whereas in most Starfleet vessels, access to the shuttle bay faces
aft.
